Overview

Located in the vibrant heart of Haymarket, Sydney, Spice World is a standout Chinese hot pot restaurant that brings together an authentic culinary experience with modern hospitality. Nestled at 403a/411 Sussex Street, this eatery offers not only an extensive menu but also a welcoming atmosphere that caters to both casual diners and special gatherings.

The core of Spice World’s appeal lies in its carefully crafted hot pot offerings. Their Spicy Soup Base and the Chinese Herbal Chicken Soup are celebrated for their rich, layered flavors that balance heat and subtlety without overwhelming the palate. These broths serve as the perfect foundation for an array of fresh ingredients such as premium wagyu beef, thinly sliced ox tongue in chili sauce, and unique options like pre-cooked duck blood jelly, which speak to the restaurant’s commitment to traditional Chinese flavors with a modern twist.

The menu also boasts intriguing choices like a variety of fresh seafood—scallops, tiger prawns, baby abalone, and squid tentacles—paired with expertly curated vegetable platters including their signature mushroom medley. The presence of handmade, hand-shaved noodles adds a tactile, artisanal element to the meal, emphasizing quality and authenticity.

Spice World truly excels in understanding the needs of its audience. The space is thoughtfully designed with a blend of modern warmth and functionality. Whether you prefer outdoor seating or the privacy of well-insulated private rooms, the restaurant accommodates families, friend groups, and corporate diners alike. This versatility, combined with a well-maintained, spotless environment, ensures a comfortable and stylish setting. Customers frequently praise the attentive and friendly service, noting how staff are both knowledgeable and engaged, enhancing the overall dining experience.

Another notable highlight is the careful attention to ambience and convenience. The advanced ventilation system eliminates lingering food odors—an often overlooked aspect of hot pot dining that significantly improves post-meal comfort. Additionally, robotic food delivery adds a futuristic edge without compromising the freshness or speed of service, making it both a functional and entertaining feature.

For those venturing into hot pot for the first time or regular aficionados seeking quality and variety, Spice World offers an inviting introduction or a trusted destination. It balances traditional flavors and ingredients with modern service and setting, all set within Sydney’s bustling Chinatown. This makes it particularly suited for those looking to celebrate special occasions or enjoy intimate meals in private spaces, as well as diners who appreciate refined presentation and thoughtful hospitality.

In summary, Spice World delivers a compelling mix of authenticity, quality, and atmosphere. It raises the standard for hot pot in Sydney with its diverse menu, attentive service, and welcoming environment, making it a top pick for anyone eager to explore Chinese cuisine beyond the usual.

Spicy World in Chinatown is one of my favourite hot pot restaurants in Sydney—and for good reason. The first thing that stands out is how clean and well-maintained the place is. Hygiene is clearly a top priority here, and it’s evident from the spotless tables to the fresh, well-organised ingredients. The space is also quite large, with a modern yet warm atmosphere that feels both stylish and welcoming. They offer both outdoor seating and multiple private rooms that are well-insulated and perfect for more intimate gatherings. The service here is exceptional. The staff are always attentive, friendly, and eager to help with anything you need. As for the food, it’s absolutely delicious. The broth is among the best I’ve tried in Sydney—flavourful and rich without being overpowering. One thing I especially appreciate is the ventilation system. Unlike many hot pot places that leave your clothes smelling like broth for hours, Spicy World has excellent extraction, so you can enjoy the meal without the lingering odours. Prices are slightly higher than some other hot pot spots, but it’s well worth it for the quality of food, service, and overall experience. Whether you’re hosting guests or planning a birthday celebration, Spicy World is a fantastic choice. The food presentation is also beautifully done, adding an extra touch of elegance to the meal.

One of my favourite restaurants right now. Highly recommend the chicken with fish maw broth base, it is honestly the best hotpot base you can get in sydney, bar none. Ingredients, menu and quality otherwise are similar to the other big hotpot places. It's a little loud at times so can be difficult to hear. There are private rooms with pretty acceptable minimum spends, you can call up and chat to the manager who has always been agreeable.

Hidden gem for real no queue at all on a busy night so I was not expecting too much, but the food is actually top quality and cheap for hotpot. Waiters were friendly too. We had a good time!

Best place to try hotpot for the first time. Decor and atmosphere is so beautiful. Excited food brought out by robots but if you sit on the inner table away from the aisle don't get to see the robot. Food came out pretty fast and was really fresh. Abit disappointed they no longer have barbie wagyu. Love the spice bear that melts. Only wish the waitress was abit more attentive and help explain the menu. Great place to celebrate a special occasion. Left feeling very full after trying lots of dishes. Variety of sauces to try. Not a large variety of fruits.

Spice World is one of the best hot pot restaurants in Sydney. Entrance is a bit hidden inside a building in Chinatown. I really enjoy their traditional spicy soup. This time we also tried their Tom Yum, which is also very nice. The service is always good. Quite pleasant experience overall.
